Hong Kong Express has restored its open-chartered flights between Hong Kong and the Philippines at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA).
Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) President Victor Jose I. Luciano cited the entry of Hong Kong Express as a “remarkable development” for DMIA as it is being geared as the premier international gateway in the country.
Luciano also expressed high hopes that Hong Kong Express will further increase its thrice a week to daily flights at DMIA so as to cater more air carriers at the sprawling 2,500 hectare civil aviation complex here.
“The resurgence of flights from Hong Kong has been much awaited by the people of Central Luzon and this is going to be a remarkable development for DMIA,” he said.
“We hope that the three flights will eventually be stepped-up to even daily flights because we can now attract Hong Kong tourists to come and visit Clark and Subic as destinations,” Luciano said.
Hong Kong Express is the latest edition of foreign air carriers to operate at DMIA which was recently declared by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as the premier international airport and logistics and services hub in the country.
Hong Kong Express was established in 2005. The air carrier from the former British colony flies to at least 56 destinations in Asia such as China, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines.
Hong Kong Express made its debut at DMIA for its thrice-a-week open-chartered flights from Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to attract more Chinese tourists to visit Clark Freeport in Pampanga.
Hong Kong Express has at least four Boeing 737-800 aircraft and will add another aircraft which is slated to be released by this month to increase its passenger capacity plying the route of Hong Kong-Clark-Hong Kong. The capacity of the aircraft is about 164.
Luciano also lauded the efforts of Maxon Asia Telecom Corporation for taking the risk in attracting Hong Kong Express to conduct flights at DMIA as well as being part to promote Clark in particular the airport as one of their destination.
He said that CIAC will give full support to Maxon Asia and Hong Kong Express in their endeavor to conduct more flights and possibly daily flights at DMIA. Last month, China Southern Airlines commenced its three times a week international flights via Guangzhou in China and DMIA in Clark Freeport Zone Philippines.
In 2007, DMIA got an increase of 533,619 passengers surpassing the 488,867 figure in 2006 in both international and domestic.
